History of Bigfoot Walk Soccer Club

In 2016, Sue Boettcher brought the first walking soccer program to the Seattle area from England. She was part of a Seattle group that had been playing regular pickup soccer off and on for years. As the group aged—and some members began getting replacement body parts—walking soccer turned out to be a perfect fit.

Since 2016, we have enthusiastically continued playing while expanding the program to other cities across the region. Walking Soccer is now included in the Washington State Senior Games, and a group of us competes annually in the Walking Soccer division of the Mayor’s Gold Cup Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii. Sue has also launched a women-only modified safe soccer program called Seattle Women’s Soccer, Modified Safe Games (seattlewomenssoccer.com). A group of us has since taken the reins to keep the co-ed program she started going strong.
